Essential Oils Crash Course for Your Busy Life

Essential Oils Crash Course for Your Busy Life

One of my biggest passions is educating people about the uses and benefits of essential oils. Essential oils have experienced a huge surge in popularity in the past few years and for good reason. There are a huge variety of oils and blends of oils that can improve your life and health in so many ways, and they have multiple uses for everyday life as well as special situations.

Some of you know this, but I use essential oils frequently in my daily life and help teach people how to use them to support their health goals. Essential oils are made from distilling, expressing, or extracting parts of plants I have seen essential oils work for people and work for myself, and I thought I’d give my readers a few starter tips and helpful hints about how you can incorporate these amazing natural oils in your life. I’m always happy to answer questions and discuss with you if you’d like more information, so don’t hesitate to email or comment for extra help! Essential oils are safe and natural, but run it by your doctor first!

Ask yourself: What are your health goals? What do you want to improve in your life?

I would start by asking yourself about your goals. What are some improvements you’d like to make in your health, lifestyle, or home? Don’t make a massive list, but definitely start with a few goals. For example, you may want to improve your quality of sleep, alleviate your seasonal threats, improve recovery time after workouts, keep your energy elevated throughout the day, or simply naturally scent your home. If you start by knowing your goals, you can select essential oils to help you meet those goals.

Find the right oil match for your needs

There are countless numbers of essential oils and blends to choose from, and each can be used in many ways, but I recommend starting with a few simple oils that can be used to meet many of your goals. Essential oils can be used sometimes directly on the skin, in diffusers, or along with other products such a jojoba oil or even baking soda.

Here are my recommendations:

Lavender: Well known for its calming benefits, lavender can be used for emotions or support for good sleep. You can rub it on the bottom of your feet or put a few drops on your pillow. You can rub a few drops on your temples and neck for emotional calming. You can even add a few drops to your Epsom Salt Bath for added benefits.

OnGuard: I was won over by this oil when I walked into our pediatrician’s office and they were diffusing it in the lobby and in each room. This is one of doTerra’s most popular blends. It blends together Wild Orange, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus, and Rosemary oils to create a great all-around blend. It’s amazing for supporting your immune system and one of my favorites to put on my son when we travel or just go for play dates. I always spray down my garbage cans with a mix of water and OnGuard to stave off smelly garbage odors. Use that same water and OnGuard mix to spray on doorknobs, gym machines,Oil Recommendation railings, and countertops.

Peppermint: I always recommend peppermint because it really can be used in so many ways. It’s great for mental alertness, helps with head tension, occasional stomach upset, helps open up the airways, and is also good for cooling the body.  Before workouts I will put 1-2 drops on my fingertips and rub the oil between my hands and inhale deeply to improve alertness and focus, then rub it on the back of my neck to keep me cool.

Breathe: This blend includes Lemon, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Thyme, Melissa, and Cardamom, and it helps you, well, breathe! I use it either when I have trouble breathing because of respiratory issues or if the air around me is stagnant. Since I’ve been flying a lot recently, I carry a roll-on of Breathe with me to apply before and after my flights to feel more alert and less stuffed up from the stale air. It’s fantastic to use in a diffuser or just simply rub it into your palms and take a whiff.

Research, Research, Research

As you get used to your oils and start experimenting with the basics, expand your collection and usages with new tools and new oils. You might look into getting oils like eucalyptus, lemon, sweet orange, or lemongrass because they blend well with others and are also multi-use oils. You can also pick up diffusers, roll-on bottles, and sprays to use your oils in new ways.

Remember not all oils are created equal and the quality of oils on the shelf, at even the natural food stores, often contain synthetics and fillers that you don’t want in your  body. Reach out to me if you want to know the brand I use or you would like help with specific things you are looking to support in your life.

Once you start using the oils I know you will be shocked at all the uses and most importantly how you feel. Empower yourself by learning more and you’ll witness the benefits yourself. Learning how to use natural solutions now will greatly benefit you long-term. Remember, contact me if you have any further interest or want to learn more about essential oils.
